Honey cough syrup

Simple easy to make home-remedy for common cold using honey and other items available at home itself.


  • ½ cup lemon juice
  • 1 cup honey
  • 1 cup water
  • ½ teaspoon ground ginger
  • 2 lemon zest (grated outer skin of lemon)


Pour 1 cup water in a pan and combine lemon zest and ground ginger and boil the mixture for 5 minutes, then strain it into a heat-proof measuring cup. Rinse the pan out and pour honey in it and set it on low flame to ensure honey is not raised to more than 40 degree Celsius and the mixture of zest and ginger, continue stirring until it forms a thick syrup.


For children ages, 1 to 5, use 1/2 to 1 tsp. every 2 hours. For children ages, 5 to 12, use 1 to 2 tsp. every 2 hours. For children 12 and older and adults, use 1 to 2 T every 4 hours.*

* Remember, honey is recommended for children after the age of one.

Note: This syrup can be stored in the refrigerator for 2 months.
